The apostles had been entrusted with revelation by the Spirit – Specifically, it had been revealed to them, that Gentiles ( non Jews believers ) who receive the Gospel in faith, are fellow heirs of the promises of God. They too are members of the Body of Christ, and therefore they have access to God through Jesus Christ.
Perhaps, the substance of the content of the plea in Ephesians 3: 14 -19 highlights four core pillars of the Pentecost’s spirit:
- inner spiritual strength: ” He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might. He increases strength ( causing it to multiply and making it to abound )” – Isaiah 40: 29;
- the indwelling of Christ in their hearts: ” At that time ( when that day comes ) you will know ( for yourselves ) that I am in My Father, and you ( are ) in Me, and I ( am ) in you. ” – John 14: 20;
- the ability to comprehend all the dimensions of spiritual realities: ” …Behold the indwelling place of God is with man, He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be morning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. And he who was seated on the throne said ” behold, I am making all things new “… ” – Revelation 21: 1; 22: 21;
- knowledge of the love of Christ: ” Dear friends, let us love one another for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” – 1 John 4: 7.
When Jesus echoed to the disciples after His resurrection ” …I will send forth upon what My Father has promised; but remain in the city ( Jerusalem ) until you are clothed with power from on high. ” – Luke 24: 49. He knew the endless qualities of the Holy Spirit in enabling them carrying forward and successfully all the aspects of the ” Great commission ” revealed in the Book of Matthew 28: 19 -20 “ Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,… “
