Jesus: King & Lord of the Universe.

The “ Epiphany ” is indeed a great feast, and the joy caused by the birth of our Jesus must be renewed on it, for as though it were a second Christmas Day. It shows us our incarnate God in a new light. It leaves us all the sweetness of the dear baby of Bethlehem, who have appeared to us already in love, but to this it adds its own grand manifestation of the Divinity of our Jesus.

At Christmas it was a few shepherds – Luke 2: 8-20 – that were invited by the angels to go and recognize THE WORD MADE FLESH – John 1: 14 – ; but now, at Epiphany, the voice of God himself calls the ” WHOLE WORLD ” – Matthew 2: 1-12 -, to adore this Jesus, and hear Him.

Today’s call is the revelation of God’s plan through three manifestations; as the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy ( Isaiah 60: 1-6 ) of Jesus as the KING of Kings and the LORD of Lords:

  • the mystery of the magi coming from, the East, not Israel, under the guidance of a star, and adoring the infant of Bethlehem as the Divine King – Ephesians 3: 2-6 ” …Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equality in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus. “;
  • the mystery of the baptism of Christ, who while standing in the waters of the Jordan, was proclaimed by the Eternal Father as ” SON OF GOD ” – Matthew 3: 13-17 “…This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. “;
  • the mystery of the Divine power of this same Jesus, when He changed the water into wine at the marriage feast of Cana – John 2: 1-12.
