Our weekly delight ( joy & pleasure ) in READING comes from the Book of Matthew 21: 23-27.
” And when he entered the temple,” the chief priests and the elders “, of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “ by what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?“
Jesus answered them ” I also will ask you one question, and if you tell ,me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man? And they discussed it among themselves, saying ” If you say ” from heaven “, he will say to us ” why then did you not believe him? But if we say, ” from man “, we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet. So they answered Jesus, ” we do not know! And he said to them, “ neither I tell you by what authority I do these things! “

Joshua 1: 8 ” This Book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it, day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then, you will make your way prosperous, and then, you will have good success. “
Today his ” Seed Gospel ” revealed Jesus questioned by” the chief priets and the elder ” of the people. They ask ” by what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority? ” Jesus prophesied that his suffering and death would come about at the hands of the ” chief priests and the elders “.( Matthew 16:21; 20:18 ). Yet, this is the first time that either group has directly confronted him, here they do so together. Jesus brings to light through his interrogations, the true condition (or source ) of the authority of the ” chief priests & elders “:
- their pragmatism. Astonishing; they admit that, they are afraid of the people;
- their unbelief. By their own admission, they did not believe in John the ” baptist “;
- their are imperception. Their unbelief rests on a failure to perceive the Divine authority ( from God ) that underlines the Ministries of both John & Jesus;
- their hostility. The questioned attitude toward John, reveals their attitude naturally toward Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of the most high God.
