A prayer for help against sin.

Our weekly delight ( joy & pleasure ) in Reading comes from the Book of Sirach 22: 27 to 23: 1- 6.

I wish that a guard could be placed at my mouth, that my lips could be wisely sealed. It would keep me from making mistakes and prevent me from destroying myself with my own tongue!

O Lord, my Father and Master of my life, do not leave me at the mercy of my own words. Don’t let them cause my downfall. I wish, I could be whipped for my thoughts, so that wisdom could discipline my mind. I would not want to be spared when I am wrong. I would not want a single sin to be over looked! Then I would not keep on sinning, making one mistake after another, I could not fall to my enemies and be humiliated by them.

O Lord, my Father, God of my life, keep me from being arrogant, protect me from evil desires. Keep me from being overcome by greed or lust; Do not leave me at the mercy of these shameless passions…….”

Please! Please continue to read the Bible! This is Life!!!

The above paragraph of Sirach is another genuine ” blow ” to human foolishness. It is like trying to glue together postherd pieces. If one tells a story to a fool, the fool is drowsy ( resulting from sleepiness ). At the end, he may show he did not understand it at all. Very often people who are not so far down the scale as ” blind fools ” seem to be listening, but in reality are not interested. They are actually just thinking ahead to what they want to say next. Sinners and Revilers and arrogant Men are tripped by their own words. The Bible made a provision to overcome these weak feelings through the the ” precious blood ” Jesus, Our Merciful & Glorious Father shared on the cross; ” The weapons  we fight with are not weapons of the world. On the contrary, they ave Divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 10: 4 – 5.

Joshua 1: 8 ” Be sure that the Book of the law is always read in your worship. Study it day and night, and make sure that you obey everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. “

Lord, have mercy on us. We have put our hope in you. Protect us day by day, and save us in times of trouble. When you fight for us, nations run away from the noise of battle. Their belongings are pounced upon and taken as loot. How great the Lord is! He will fill the World with justice and integrity and give stability to the nations. He always protects his people and gives them wisdom and knowledge. Our greatest treasure is the reverence for the Lord – Isaiah 33: 2-5.
