Christ takes an occasion from hence to teach His followers humility and guard them against pride and vanity – Luke 18: 17 ” I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God ( with faith and humility ) like a child will not enter it at all .” Why do Jesus, Our Lord, related the entrance to the Kingdom to a character of a child: An immature being, someone under complete care, an unsecured person who is reliable totally to the parents? Jesus admonishes us followers, to trust Him with a definite faith & humility. We were made by Him for Him; our destiny was set by him for his Glory. He knows who we are, where are we now in that journey, what are our needs to push forward the laying out of our glorious destiny in Him. Our duty under the sun, is to depend on Him as a ” weaned child ” trust the Mother for his steadfast growth, without asking questions which answers eventually are sure mysteries for him ( I wanted to say belongs to God ).
We tend to think of King David as a humble man, which is a right tendency because he often was. But humility didn’t come naturally to David. David’s life was frequently embattled and often threatened ( as we today’s Christians ). With the complexities and tragedies he faced, it must have been difficult to set aside the things ” too great ” for him the ” why’s ” he couldn’t figure out. Therefore, in the light of Psalms 131 : 1-3, David is giving to us as a model of what it looks like to humble ourselves under God’s Mighty hand – 1 Peter 5: 6 ” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. ” Great humility typically looks like a small child.
Nowadays weaned child, is a child who has experienced deprivation, disappointment, confusion , and grief ( the apostasy of Christians ). Such a child who has quieted his soul and is peacefully sitting beside his Mother, no longer demanding what has been denied to him, is a child who has SUBMITTED HIS WILL TO HIS MOTHER’S WILL. He is beginning to bear the peaceful fruit that comes from the discipline of a loving parent’s training – Hebrews 12: 11 ” No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening – It’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. ” The Spirit of the ” weaned child ” is what testified his Hope in God, who weans His Children.
Let me just highlight unfortunately why those who think ” they know ” ( learners & academics of all kinds ) can not be saved, as the reason of their blind foolishness, struggling to question the Truth, the Word, the Gospel, brought at the doorstep of MANKIND, God’s plan of salvation in ” human language “. Let us rehearsed with delight the best answer from God to these brothers/sisters in the Book of Job 38: 1-18. In this passage God does not declare Job innocent or guilty. God focused on the wonders of the world that God had created. All through this speech, God reminds Job – using what sounds like sarcastic asides – that mere
HUMANS COULD NEVER ACCOMPLISH ALL OF THIS. The duty of a human, is to acknowledge his limits and trust God beyond his understanding, on what seems to him as a mystery. That is absolutely the realm of God!
