With all of the rejections we give each other, and in the midst of all of the rejection we ourselves experience do we ever stop and consider how God has been hurt by our rejection of His love for us?
Jesus presented us with today’s parable in Matthew 21: 33-43 ” The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see. The kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit…“, just before He entered Jerusalem for the last time. How many times does His silence inner voice call to us to repent, and we refuse to listen to His whispering voice within us? Furthermore, there’s the matter of rejection too of God’s forgiveness. We declare that God’s love and forgiveness ( or absolutely Divine mercy ) simply doesn’t matter; that we can’t be bothered with it. We are commonly called ” blind fools “. This is an unforgivable sin, because we questioned the authority of the Holy Spirit. We vow that God is unimportant for us; we deny the genuineness of the ” cross ” as the highest expression of the passion for Love. The pain for rejection is horrible & inhumane. There is no defense against rejection – No words can deal with the rejection Jesus Christ endured. However, that was the reason why Jesus willingly and happily exchange His life for our exoneration, acknowledging publicly that “ we were not knowing what we were doing “- Killing the one who loves us the most, refusing His gift of love for our justification, our salvation.
Today’s parable is more than just exposing our attitude of the rejection of God’s love, is a glimpse into God’s heart. It tells us about how He feels about the hurt and pain, He experiences at our hands ( unbelievers ) – Micah 6: 3 ” O my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me! ”
So when we are experiencing rejection, and when the fear of rejection is overpowering within us, let us give sometime, I means quality time, to be alone with Christ ( faith ingredient ). He knows rejection more than we imagine, and in His infinite love and caring for us, He gives us His power to overcome ( John 16: 33 ” …Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. “) rejection and knows what it is to love and to be loved in return.
