Caution against outward prosperity.

Do not become angrily excited or envious at the apparent prosperity of the wicked ( rulers and authorities of the dark world; principalities of the unseen world; evil spirits in heavenly places ) – Psalms 24: 19. For their present impunity, or good success, all his hopes and happiness shall quickly and eternally perish, and he shall have no share in those solid felicities, and blessed recompenses of another life, which you shall enjoy – Psalms 37: 1.

When we look abroad today, we see the world full of evil-doers, that flourish and live in ease. So it was seen of old, therefore, let us not marvel at the matter. We are tempted to fret at this, to think they are the only happy people, and so we are prone to do like them. But, this we are warned against outward prosperity is fading. When we look forward, with an eye of faith, we shall see no reason to envy the wicked. Their weeping and wailing will be everlasting. A man life’s consists not in abundance, but thou shall have food convenient for thee. To delight in God is as much a privilege as a duty.

Jeremiah 12:1 ” Righteous are you, O Lord, when I plead with you: yet let me talk with you of your judgments: why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all they happy that deal very treacherously?”

When we are most in the dark concerning God’s dispensations, we must keep up right thoughts of God believing, that he never did the least wrong to any  of his creatures. When we find it hard to understand any of his dealings with us, or others, we must look to general truths as our first principles, and abide by them: the lord is righteous. The God with whom we have to do knows how hearse are toward him. He knows both the guile of the hypocrite and the sincerity of the upright. Divine judgments, would pull the wicked out of their pasture as sheep for the slaughter.
