Violence is the result of a pathology of the ” soul “. Violence does not begin with standing armies, generational ethnic hatred, longstanding social inequities. Violence is as close to us as our own heart – Genesis 6: 9 ” …Nowadays, any rebellion around the neighborhood must be perceived as the spraying pattern of the ” culture of violence “. The culture of violence acquired through customary & civilized social medium, since the creation of the universe, gives permission to be violent, or to be desensitized, but the instinct and choice to act in violence comes out of the heart full of undisclosed values. Luke 6: 45 ” The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. ”
Every day, people’s lives are touched by political, social, economics and religions conflicts that tear the Human Family apart. And the question keep bubbling in our mind, what is the essence of all this? Let me add my voice to many and copied for us the Bible in Ephesians 6: 12 ” For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. ” Many people scoff at the idea that there are wicked spirits. But it is no laughing matter, whether people believe it or not ( especially academics ); wicked spirits do exist and they are currently driving the whole world in premature self-destruction. Therefore, we as followers of our Lord & Savior, we must stand as one and confessed the following: ” We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” 1 John 5: 20.
However, for we followers to reverse this trend, we must choose Jesus Christ as our raw model for non violence power. “ Behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. Then Jesus said to him, put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will die by the sword. ” Matthew 26: 51-52. Jesus encourage us to live bravely in the face of violence because we live in this world. ” Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. ” Matthew 10: 28. He furthermore, mandates us to response to violence by cultivating peace in our neighborhood, because we are at our conversion in the Spirit to peace as a gift, also we must allow peace to become our badge as followers. ” Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called Children of God. ” Matthew 5: 9. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
As a member of a community of faith, we must be ready to answer this question from God – “ Where is Abel, your brother?” – Genesis 4: 9. As brothers in faith, we are each other keeper. As we are looking round to care for potential victim, let us watch and reach out for potential aggressors with the love of peace.
