To be preserved from sinning.
Work preserves a Christian from sin. Proverbs 6: 6 ” Go to the ant you sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise. ” / Proverbs 10: 4 ” He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth. ” / 2 Thessalonians 3: 11 ” For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don’t work at all, but are busybodies. “ The word of God gives us in David an example of idleness and its sad consequences. 2 Samuel 11: 2 ” At the evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the King’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at. “
To be able to provide for the needs of his existence.
A Christian must work to be able to provide for its needs for existence. Paul speaks to the Thessalonians about it. 1 Thessalonians 4: 12 ” that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing. “
To be able to take care of others.
1- His wife: With the income from his work, a Christian must be able to take care of his wife, Ephesians 5: 29 ” For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly. ” Man and his wife are one flesh ( or body ).
2- His family: 1 Timothy 5:8 ” But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. “
3- His parents: 1 Timothy 5: 4 ” But if any widow has children or grand children, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God. “
To support the work of the Lord.
A Christian must be able to use part of his income to support the Lord’s work.
1) By the benevolence to who is in needs. Hebrews 13: 16 ” But don’t forget to be doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. “/ Ephesians 4: 28 ” Let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good that he may have something to give to him who has need. “
2) To make a gift to the one from whom we received our spiritual guidance ( or support ) according to the book of Galatians 6: 6 ” But let him, who is taught in the word share, all good things with him who teaches. “
To have a good testimony in the world.
By working ” with our own hands ” A Christian render testimony to those around him. 1 Thessalonians 4:12;
To be prepared to be used by the Lord in his work.
.The one who was firstly qualified in his professional field will be also able to work with the Lord. Moses kept during forty years the herds of his father in-law. David kept the sheep, he protected his herd until cutting down the lion and the bear. They were qualified in their respective fields, and after God draws them from their initial field and brought them in his service. It is paramount and essential duty of faith, to work with the Lord. Luke ” the loved doctor ” according to the book of Colossians 4: 14 ” Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas greet you. “ The Bible contains many other characters as Elijah & Joseph, just to named a few.
