” Jesus wept ” John 11: 35. Accordingly, another opportunity was revealed in the book of Luke 19: 41 at the side view of the city of Jerusalem ” When He came near, He saw the city and wept over it. “These experiences portrayed him to be truly and really a ” man “, subject to life passions, only without sin. However, before we move further, let us rehearsed how Jesus our Lord & Savior assume the two (2) nature of man and God. Therefore, the origin of the incarnation was revealed to us in 1 John 4: 9 ” By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. ” This mystery was fulfilled through the Word ” when the time have fully come, God sent forth His Son born of woman.” Galatians 4: 4; and ” the Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. ” John 1: 14. Let us paused here and say that, Jesus the incarnate Word, is not a myth, or an abstract idea; He is a man who lived in a specific context and who gave his life after a life spent on earth in the course of the salvation of mankind.
Nowadays, academics defined crying (or weeping ) as a defense against other internal drives. It is an act of regression and a retreat to the earliest proverbial stage of life, beyond the traditional mourn with tears or other expression of sorrow. Tears like shout or sneeze provokes the immediate attention of others and emotional response in the observers which, in the more skeptical views, not elicits ( to draw out, bring out something ) sympathy, but act as a manipulative tool. Jesus expressed this aspect of “ human ” character or spirit after the burial of one of His best friend Lazarus, He shared through tears with the bereaved family the pain induces by the definite separation with a loved one ( death ). Otherwise, Jesus expressed here is love for His friend, He wanted him to stay alive as a living testimony for God’s faithfulness & might for the friend’s family and the community as a whole.
Jesus couldn’t hide the fact that he was at the same time ” Emmanuel – God with us “ – Matthew 1: 23, therefore, any occasion was opportune to express God’s Glory by calling back Lazarus from his sleepiness to life, above all, highlighting the purpose of the mystery of incarnation , – John 11: 25 ” Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. ” The incarnation not only shows God’s love for mankind, his infinite mercy, justice and power, but also the divine wisdom shown in the way God decided to save man, which is the way that was most appropriate to human nature; through the incarnation of the word – John 10: 10 ” The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. “ Christ’s humanity is radically holy, the source and model of the holiness of all men;Through the ” tears ” Christ’s human nature was elevated to the greatest union with God – with the person of the Word to which any creature can be raised.
