Jesus gives thanks and praises to His Father, after His disciples returned to him and gave account of the success of their ministry. As a teacher evaluating their assignment, he draws their attention to the prospect of the mind-set of an authentic disciple. In order words: How to welcome the Word and spark our gift of salvation? Matthew 11: 25″ At that time, Jesus answered, I THANK YOU, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hide these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. “
Therefore, the wise of Jesus day had careful reasons for interpreting the Bible ( including many we would now consider wrong ). They prided themselves on their knowledge of traditional interpretations, and sayings of the wise who had gone before them, they emphasized practical piety. But human tradition is hardly a dependable interpreter of God’s word – Matthew 15: 6-9, a faith built on mere human reason rather than the pure revelation of an unapproachable infinite God is doomed to fail. Intellectual & spiritual pride defy the fear of God, for we make our own minds and lives, rather than God, the judge, the final arbiter ( A person appointed, or chosen, by parties to determine a controversy between them; an arbitrator ) of right and wrong. We should take heed, Jesus stressed humility far more than do most of our own, because the Kingdom of God is not a matter of the “brain” but rather of the “heart”; not any heart, but a “pure heart” Psalm 24: 4-5 ” He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from Yahweh, righteousness from God of his salvation.”
That is why “ Babies “ in scripture language, are persons whose faculties are not improved by learning, but who, to that sagacity ( be able to make good decision ) and understanding which is purely natural, join the disposition, of modesty, sincerity, humility, docility, and all the other engaging qualities that are to be found in children only. This is plain from Matthew 18: 3 ” …Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter the Kingdom of Heaven. “. Babes, therefore, stand in opposition not to ” men ” of sound judgment and reason, but to proud politicians and men of learning ( academic ), who are so full of themselves, that they disdain ( the feeling or attitude of regarding someone or something as inferior, base ) to receive instruction from others, and who make all their abilities subservient ( useful in an inferior capacity ) to their advancement in this world.
