When you read of the ministry of Jesus, you find that he himself announces that He came to be ” a peacemaker “; to heal; to save; to deliver; to liberate. Yet, He also said “ I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. ” Matthew 10: 34-36. Truth, appears again in this verse in the form of seeming paradox. Christ is ” our peace “ Ephesians 2: 14 ” for he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition. “; and yet the foreseen consequences of his work involved ” strife and division ” ( he was hated by rulers and betrayed by his disciple ). And it all ended at last in the hurt and heartache ( with sincere and difficult emotional problems or stress ) of the cross. Therefore, the whole universe were saved. However, when Jesus was born, His government were foreseen as a source of abundant felicity ( happiness ), inasmuch as His body ( the Church ) breathes nothing, but Love. Perhaps, men, the recipients of his divine mercy, have not promised to lay aside their animosity, nor will they exercise a mutual friendship among themselves as soon as the gospel ( good news through the Word made flesh ) is preached to them. No, such is their wickedness, the gospel will appears itself as an occasion of bitter dissensions (strong disagreement ). This is what Jesus’s followers must perceived as a ” sword ” Hebrews 4: 12 ” For the word of God is living an active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ”
Please do not forget that the Word is GOD HIMSELF. His coming is to establish Joy & Unity. Joy & Unity are going to be achieved through the cycles of history often called the “Bible seasons“. The process to destroy the “old” before we could build the “new” looks as follows:
- peace and prosperity;
- apathy and lethargy;
- rebellion and revolution,
which brings about change in our family & the community as a whole, which results in peace and prosperity. Again & again!!!
The strongest bonds of love and duty of Jesus’s followers, have often been broken through from enmity against Christ. Sufferings from friends and relations are very grievous; nothing cuts more. It appears plainly, that all who will live godly in Christ Jesus must suffer persecution. Micah 7:5-7.” don’t not trust in a neighbor… look to Yahweh.” What joy! What a release to focus on the purpose of the sword.
Ephesians 1: 10 ” to an administration of the fullness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things on the earth, in him. “, our preparedness to embrace the gift of salvation in order to experience God’s fullness.
Mysteriously, the marvel of God is that he destroys the old and build the new at the same time (unity), and by the same process! God is doing both at once by means of the hate and the hurt and the suffering he is building the new creation – 2 Corinthians 5:17. And when the old is destroyed, the new emerges, all finished, complete, and at the same time.
